re SECRET ACTS of CARE & KINDNESS
Most people have heard of "SIMPLE ACTS of CARE & KINDNESS" and the acronym S*A*C*K, which is a good movement, and has accomplished some great things in this world via "ordinary people" doing small but extra ordinary acts of care and/or kindness...from as small & simple as making a conscious effort to smile & say something nice to a clerk in the grocery store to giving a gift even though it's not somebody's birthday, to a whole wide world of little things that are not required of a person, but are done out of the goodness of one's heart to try to make the community around them a nice, better place for everybody. For some, this effort is due to their religious beliefs...often evangelical Christians are attracted to the "simple acts" movement; but also persons of no faith or religion have adopted some of the S*A*C*K ideology and put it into practice for their own reasons.
I myself applaud the S*A*C*K movement, and have a relative who has been a leader in this regard, but I have also discovered that in America, even "simple acts" and "small acts" sometimes get rejected and scorned by some people in this harsh, sometimes cruel world. For some reason, some people are suspicious of just about anything and everything, even saying hello as you pass by on the sidewalk. The system of "legal rights" in America has its pros & cons...the pros being the guarantee of freedom & liberty ...but the cons being that it can breed a certain type of personality that is non-receptive to just about anything & everything around them. Ironically, the same freedom they demand & receive from being American they do NOT always extend to others.
For example, legally, a person has the right to go door-to-door and do Christian evangelism, or mormon evangelism, or Jehovah Witness, or even "atheism evangelism" if you will (& yes, atheists do evangelize, or proselytize ) yet people can be very rude and even mean-spirited towards such persons. We have a community that is often angry, impatient...not even interested or willing to give a person 10 seconds of time, let alone a minute or more. I myself, I must confess, have been impatient with people, including homeless seeking handouts, and sometimes, in fact, the reasons may be good for our impatience or lack of receptivity...
However, the POINT of all of this is that in situations where SIMPLE ACTS of CARE & KINDNESS are exceedingly difficult or impossible, then we must find an alternative ...rather than cease altogether..and I speak as an evangelical Christian...the option to NOT evangelize is a non-option, as evidenced by the following:
Then Jesus

disciples of all nations, baptizing them in
the name of the
Father and of the Son and of the Holy
commanded you.
And surely I am with you always, to
the very end of
the age.” Matthew 28.16
Sure, some sceptical persons who call themselves "theologians" who want to demoralize the church will argue about the validity of this verse, but NOT me. I accept it wholeheartedly, and therefore non-evangelism is a non-option.
Thus, in situations of hostility or non-receptiveness I advocate SECRET ACTS of CARE & KINDNESS ...which is still a S*A*C*K! There are many ways to do secret acts,...one of which I use most often is windshield wiper evangelism...placing a note, a "faith heart" , a Christian card, even a small pocket Bible, or sometimes when I am really feeling a generosity of heart I have added a dollar bill with one of the above. How would you like to find a free dollar bill under your windshield wiper ? You get the satisfaction of hoping you made somebody happy,...hoping you inspired them..maybe even led somebody to Christ, without being dejected by an angry scowl or brush-off by somebody in too much of a hurry to listen to you. This is one form of SECRET ACTS of CARE & KINDNESS...and there are many more... and if you get "CAUGHT"...YOU can be happy that you've been "caught being good..." even if in this suspicious world, sometimes "they" will try to make being good out to be something strange, wierd, or even bad as well. Nonetheless, you and God know the TRUTH !
